Review for Queen of the Falls by Chris Van Allsburg

Written By: David T. Lee - Oct• 25•11

Queen of the Falls is a very good book to me. I just bought this book as a souvenir from the Rhode Island Festival of Children’s Books and Authors. I have been reading it ever since. It is the first nonfiction book Chris Van Allsburg has written. It has wonderful illustrations and it talks about a lady that rode over Niagara Falls in a barrel. The story was inspired by a newspaper article about the event.

My most favorite drawing in this book is when the big crowd that stood under Niagara Falls saw the barrel plunging over the waterfall. In that picture, there is a crowd waiting for the barrel to go over and all the people holding their breath in complete suspense. My most favorite part is when the barrel, containing Annie Edson Taylor, plunges over the waterfall, disappears, and bobs to the crowd standing under the falls. That scene has been astonished me ever since.

Chris is a great author. He has struck again with another great book since Ben’s Dream, Probutidi!, and so much more. This book is highly recommended for both kids and adults.
