Spectacular celebration on Armed Forces Day!

Written By: David T. Lee - May• 21•16

Hello folks,

This morning, I attended the 2nd annual Armed Forces Day celebration at the Scandinavian Athletic Club! State Representative Hannah Kane hosted this event. Many of Massachusetts’s state representatives, elected officers, war veterans, active service members and community members came to this event. Among them were Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, State Representative Hannah Kane, State Representative Harold Naughton, State Representative David Muradian, State Representative Danielle Gregoire, State Representative Carolyn Dykema, State Senator Harriette Chandler, State Senator Jamie Eldridge, State Senator Michael Moore, Grafton Job Corps Color Guards, Boy Scout Troop 114, Women Veterans Coordinator Mary Gallagher, Director of Central MA Veterans’ Service Adam Costello, First Lieutenant Brenda Heller, Monsignor Michael Rose, select students from Shrewsbury Public Schools, select students from Northborough Public Schools, select students from Westborough High School and AMSA student Aishwarya Khanna.

The celebration started without a hitch with a presentation of the flag and a stellar performance of the national anthem from Shrewsbury High School student Carly O’Brien. Remarks from the presenters, musical performances (including “God Bless America”, sung by Carly O’Brien again) and poem readings followed up after that, ending with a prayer and a flag ceremony. One presenter talked about lesser-known trivia about the armed forces: Who knew Top Gun is the official training video for the US Air Force? I even noticed one of my classmates (Boy Scout Troop 114 member Tom Ryan) among the presenters!

Thank you to our active and retired men and women for their tremendous sacrifice in serving and protecting our nation.

Here are some photos. (and a video)

Have a great weekend!
David:)
